Customizing Company Branding with Microsoft Designer

In this article, we’ll configure the company branding using Microsoft AI tools for graphic design. This includes creating logos, banners, headers, and more.

Why is Company Branding Important?

You might be wondering why we need to configure our branding. The simple answer is authenticity. In real-life scenarios, company branding is the first step I recommend to all customers. This is because a Microsoft tenant essentially represents their organization.

Here are a few examples to illustrate this:

  • Employes: Company branding plays a crucial role in creating a friendly and familiar environment for employees accessing cloud resources. With authentic company branding, the resources become instantly recognizable, boosts confidence in employees that they are accessing the correct company data.
  • Guest Users: When guest users join your organization, it will be easier for them to distinguish which organization to join based on the company’s brand.
  • Microsoft Autopilot: If you’re using Microsoft Autopilot, it will be much easier to distinguish when we are in the processes of Autopilot or standard Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) deployments.

There are many more reasons, but these are just a couple.

Microsoft Entra Company Branding vs Microsoft Intune Customization

Before we dive in, let’s understand the difference between Microsoft Entra Company Branding and Microsoft Intune Customization.

  • Microsoft Entra Company Branding allows you to customize on the tenant level. This includes logos, sign-in windows, headers, footers, etc.
  • Microsoft Intune Customization, on the other hand, allows you to customize the Company Portal experience.

Customizing Microsoft Entra Company Branding

We’ll start by customizing our tenant inside Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory). There are different sections such as basics, layout, header, footer, and sign-in form.

There are different sections such as (basics, layout, header, footer, and sign-in form). I won’t show you how to customize every single one.

Note: Check the optimal dimension of an image before uploading.

Microsoft AI Image Creation

We can use Microsoft AI technology to create some images for our tenant. In my case, I used Microsoft Bing and DALL·E 3 to create some images.

To do this, navigate to the Bing Images Create page: https://www.bing.com/images/create.

Update: Navigate directly to the Microsoft Designer website and then generate the image

If you’re not signed in already, you’ll need to sign in with a Microsoft Personal Account.

On the right side, you’ll see how many images you can generate. You have limited tokens and every image that you generate costs one token. In my example, I have 15 tokens left, but I’ve already generated a lot of images, so it’s more than enough.

Now, write a prompt to generate the image.

After you receive the generated images, you can change the design with Microsoft Designer. Choose the image and click “customize”.

Inside Microsoft Designer, you can adjust images. You can add text, generate new ideas, add additional visuals, etc.

One cool option is that you resize the image, which is useful because we need specific image dimensions for company branding.

After resizing, download the image and use it for our company branding. All images that we generate are stored and saved for future use.

Upload the image to the Company Branding section in Microsoft Entra ID. Review each section inside the Company branding menu (basics, layout, header, footer, sign-in form).

We can also customize the look of the Company Portal. This is where users can download available programs, check compliance, sync the device, and more.

Navigate to https://intune.microsoft.com. Under Tenant customization, we can find the End User Experience section with the customization option. The process is the same as with the Microsoft Entra Portal.
